Beanstats 2.4: Taste Profiles, Extraction Grid, and Cost Analytics

Beanstats 2.4 is a meaty release that turns your brew log into something you can actually learn from. New ways to rate a brew, new ways to see what’s working, and a follow-up patch that adds cost analytics on top.

What’s New

Taste Profile with radar chart

Rate brews on multiple taste dimensions and see the result as a radar chart on the brew detail and brew list views. Profiles roll up into per-bean insights so you can see how a coffee actually tastes to you across many brews.

3x3 Extraction Grid

A quick-tap 3x3 grid for assessing strength and flavour balance. Pick a cell and Beanstats can pre-fill your taste profile from that selection, which makes rating fast even when you’re in a hurry.

Personalised insights

Beanstats now surfaces patterns across your library: which origins, processes, and roast levels tend to land your highest ratings. “What to Buy Next” turns those patterns into actual buying guidance.

Best recipe per bean

For each bean, the app computes a best recipe based on the highest-rated brews you’ve logged with it. Dose, ratio, grind, time, all derived from your own data.

Similar beans and method comparison

Discover beans in your library that are similar across multiple attributes, and compare which brew methods score highest for a given bean.

Extraction pattern analysis

With TDS data, Beanstats highlights your extraction sweet spot and shows the patterns in how your brews extract over time.

Sorting and filtering

New sort options (roaster, freshness, best match) and richer filtering on the bean list.

Cost analytics (2.4.1)

A follow-up release added a cost analytics view: total spend, cost per cup, “value beans” that score well per dollar, plus cafe statistics covering your favourite cafes, drinks, and visit patterns. Average grinder retention also shows up in equipment analysis. Scale and time-aware recipe steps appear dynamically as a brew progresses.
