Roasters

Every bean you add belongs to a roaster, and Beanstats keeps those roasters as a proper part of your library with their own list, detail page, and statistics.

Creating Roasters

You never have to create a roaster before adding a bean. Beanstats creates them for you:

  • From the bean form: the roaster you type is matched against your existing roasters, ignoring case, spacing, and accents. If nothing matches, a new roaster is created.
  • From onboarding, imports, and backup restores: Beanconqueror imports, shared beans, and restored backups all go through the same matching.
  • From your existing beans: the first time you open Beanstats after updating, your beans are grouped by roaster name and linked automatically. The most common spelling becomes the roaster’s name.
  • Manually: tap + on the Roasters list.

Roaster List

Navigate to Roasters in the sidebar to see everything you’ve bought from. Each row shows the roaster’s photo, or a generated placeholder when there is no photo yet.

Sorting

Tap the sort button in the toolbar to order the list by:

Sort fieldDescription
NameAlphabetical (default)
RatingAverage rating of the roaster’s beans
Number of BagsHow many bags you’ve logged
Coffee BoughtTotal weight bought

Each field can be sorted ascending or descending. Ties fall back to name. Your choice is remembered and syncs across your devices via iCloud.

Archived Roasters

Archived roasters are hidden from the list by default. Toggle Show Archived to bring them back into view, the same way archived beans and equipment work.

Roaster Details

Tap a roaster to see everything you’ve logged from them:

StatDescription
BeansNumber of beans from this roaster
Coffee BoughtTotal weight bought, scaled to kg or lb where useful
Total SpendAmount spent, split per currency
Avg Bean RatingAverage rating of the roaster’s beans
Avg Brew RatingAverage rating of brews made with their beans
Last PurchaseDate of your most recent bag
OriginsDistinct origin countries you’ve tried from them

Below the stats sits the full list of beans from this roaster, newest first. Tap any bean to open its detail view.

Unrated beans and brews are left out of the averages, so a bean you haven’t rated yet will not drag the average down.

You can also add a photo, location, website, and notes to a roaster through the edit form.

Merging Duplicates

If the same roaster ended up in your library twice, for example through an import with a different spelling, you can merge them:

  1. Open the roaster you want to merge away
  2. Tap the menu and select Merge Into…
  3. Pick the roaster to keep
  4. Confirm

All beans move to the roaster you keep, and any details it was missing (location, website, notes, photo) are filled in from the one being merged away.

Merging cannot be undone.

Deleting a Roaster

Deleting a roaster never touches your beans. Each bean keeps its roaster name, it just loses the link to the roaster entry. Editing and saving such a bean re-creates the roaster.

Backup and Sync

Roasters are included in full backups and sync across your devices via iCloud. When restoring a backup, roasters are matched by name and any blank details are filled in from the backup. Backups made before roasters existed are upgraded automatically by re-linking beans to their roaster names.
